Today we are going to do a quick spotlight on a great assistive technology resource that we have recently discovered. This resource deals with Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) technology, so before we go any further, we want to mention that the New Brunswick Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists is the province’s main resource for everything related to speech and audio challenges. There’s not always a ton of resources and knowledge available when it comes to AAC. This probably has a lot to do with the specialized nature of AAC technology. This tech is often expensive, and it usually requires a bit of training to use properly.

During our recent trip to ATIA 2024, we were made aware of a website that contains some very helpful AAC-related resources. The website is called PRC-Saltillo, and we’re going to take a second to explore their resource page:

AAC Learning Journey – Access a variety of resources including eLearning classes and live online instructor-led trainings.

Minspeak Academy – This section of the website provides access to AAC-related seminars and courses.

AAC Language Lab – This subscription-based service provides a wide variety of AAC resources including lesson plans, activities, and books.

AAC Coaching Corner – Get access to an AAC coach, group sessions, and more.

Message Banking – Record custom messages to be used in conjunction with Accent NuVoice, Accent Empower, or iOS Dialogue.

Center for AAC & Autism – An AAC resource page that promotes the use of Language Acquisition through Motor Planning (LAMP).

Realize Language – A tool for collecting and organizing AAC-related data.

Explore AAC – A good first stop resource for individuals who are new to AAC.

ALP for AAC – This tool provides AAC users and their supports with the ALP framework designed to track the progression of AAC learning.
