Tips for Executing a Successful AT Plan

When it comes to successfully adopting assistive technology (AT) there’s a lot more that goes into it besides simply choosing the right technology. Developing and executing a successful AT plan takes planning, patience, and lots of adjustments along the way. That’s why we’ve developed specific techniques to ensure that you, your child, or your student can get the absolute most out of their AT adoption experience.

Understand Your Goals

The first step to effective prioritization is understanding your goals. What do you want to achieve? What are your deadlines? What are the consequences of not meeting your goals? Identify clear goals that the new strategy will achieve. Goals should be attainable.

Develop a Plan

Once you know your goals, you must develop a plan to achieve them. This plan should include a timeline, milestones and tasks that must be completed. Build a roadmap for achieving those goals and set expectations.

Delegate and Build a Team

Be clear about your expectations. Among your team, communicate your implementation plan so there is no confusion.

Set Priorities

Once you have a plan, you need to set priorities. What tasks need to be completed first? What tasks can be completed later?

Stay Flexible

Things change, and you need to be able to adjust your plan accordingly. Be flexible and be willing to change your priorities as needed.

Take Action

Once you have a plan and set your priorities, it is time to act. Start working on essential tasks that need to be completed first.

Review and Adjust

As the student completes tasks and reaches milestones, review the plan. Are you on track? Do you need to make any adjustments? Be sure to adjust your plan as required.
