Clarify Assistant: An Accessibility-Focused Writing Tool for iOS

Clear communication can be a daily challenge for many individuals, especially for people with disabilities that affect writing, language processing, or fine motor skills. ClarifyAssistant on the Apple App Store is designed with this reality in mind, offering an integrated writing support tool that works directly within the iPhone and iPad keyboard.

Unlike traditional editing apps that require copying and pasting text into a separate window, ClarifyAssistant functions as a custom keyboard extension. Once enabled, it appears wherever you type, including Messages, Mail, Notes, and other third-party apps. After drafting a sentence or using built-in iOS voice dictation, users can tap the “Clarify” button to receive a refined version of their text. The suggestion appears alongside the original, and the user decides whether to accept or dismiss it. This user-controlled approach is especially important for accessibility, because it preserves autonomy and ensures that changes are never made without consent.

For individuals with dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, or cognitive processing disabilities, writing can be mentally exhausting. Organizing thoughts, structuring sentences, and reviewing grammar at the same time can create significant barriers. ClarifyAssistant reduces that cognitive load by helping transform rough drafts into clearer, more polished communication. The tool can also be beneficial for people with motor impairments who rely on dictation, as spoken text often needs light restructuring for readability.

Multilingual support further strengthens accessibility. The app works in the device’s preferred language, allowing users who communicate in languages other than English, including French, to receive clarification in the same language they are writing.

Privacy is another key consideration. ClarifyAssistant only processes text when the user actively requests clarification, reinforcing a sense of safety and trust. For many people with disabilities who rely heavily on assistive technologies, that transparency matters.

Clarify is available for iOS at a cost of $14.99 CDN. To learn more, click here.
