WorkBC Assistive Technology Services Helps Scott as He Grows His Business
Scott is a self-employed handyman contractor in the Okanagan. He does maintenance and small renovation projects for rental property owners and homeowners, as well as work as a subcontractor. New to the industry, he’s in the early stages of building his client base.
“I’m half deaf in one ear due to injury,” he shares. “This has negatively impacted client relations and safety in the workplace where communication prevents accidents.”
Through WorkBC Assistive Technology Services, Scott received funding for a hearing aid for his left ear. He’s already seen a huge difference at work.
“Communication is easier, and I feel noticeably more aware of my surroundings. I feel less distracted as being more audibly aware means I can direct my attention where I need it. I’m more confident in working safely with others and in noisy environments,” he explains. “[It has] lead directly to improved mental focus and productivity.”
Scott says he “absolutely” recommends WorkBC Assistive Technology Services to others in need.
WorkBC Assistive Technology Services is operated by Neil Squire. Assistive Technology Services are available to individuals who have a work-related barrier due to a disability or a functional limitation. This may include barriers related to traveling to and from the workplace.
