WorkBC Assistive Technology Services Helps Earl Complete Employment Training
While receiving training for a career in human resources, Earl was referred to WorkBC Assistive Technology Services for accommodations to help him with his studies and job search activities. Earl faces many employment-related barriers.
“I have physical, cognitive, and mental health related functional limitations that can affect comfort, concentration, processing speed, and stamina when completing tasks. Without appropriate ergonomic support and structured working conditions, it can be more difficult to stay focused for extended periods and to complete computer-based work consistently,” he shares.
“[WorkBC Assistive Technology Services] provided an assessment and ergonomic equipment for my home workspace, including an adjustable sit stand desk, an ergonomic chair, and improved lighting. These accommodations helped create a more supportive and comfortable environment for completing computer-based tasks.”
He also received guidance on how to properly set up and adjust the equipment so that it could be used effectively to support his work and study routines.
Earl has noticed a big difference thanks to the accommodations.
“The accommodations helped reduce physical strain and supported a more consistent and comfortable workspace, which made it easier to maintain focus, complete tasks, and manage daily study and job search activities,” he explains.
He has since completed his Human Resources Management Certificate, and is currently looking for work in the human resources and office administration fields.
“With the supports in place, I was able to complete my training and prepare for a transition into a new career field. I am now actively pursuing employment and continuing to build skills through ongoing job search and professional development activities,” he shares.
With the accommodations he needs to find employment and thrive in the workplace, Earl is looking forward to the future.
“I would recommend the Assistive Technology Services program. The assessment process, equipment, and guidance were helpful and made a positive difference in my ability to complete training and move forward with employment goals,” he says.
“I appreciate the support I received through WorkBC ATS and the Neil Squire Society,” he continues. “The accommodations and guidance were helpful in allowing me to complete my program and continue working toward stable employment.”
