WorkBC Assistive Technology Services Helps Donna Better Serve Customers

Donna works in a busy pharmacy that prides itself on its customer service. She helps customers find items, discusses the benefits of different products, and tries to make them feel welcome and comfortable in the store. However, her hearing loss was making it more difficult to help customers.

“I had issues hearing their questions and comments over the sounds that occur in a public place,” she shares. “I was always asking them to repeat their question, which when someone was in a hurry could irritate them. I also had to ask my co-workers to repeat themselves for the same reasons. I have found that most people are quite considerate, but as the hearing loss progressed, it became more of an issue for me.”

Her audiologist referred her to WorkBC Assistive Technology Services for help funding a new pair of hearing aids. Donna says the hearing aids have made a big difference in her ability to do her job.

“I feel much more confident that I am able to understand the customers and my co-workers without things having to be repeated all the time. The frustration that was caused to both the customers, co-workers, and myself is gone. Some of my co-workers have commented on the difference,” she explains.

“Prior to receiving the hearing aids, I had been feeling that I was not able to properly carry out the primary goal of the store. I now feel that I am carrying out my job requirements in a much better way and I go to work without that prior worry.”

Donna is very pleased with the service she received from WorkBC Assistive Technology Services.

“I would very much recommend the program to others and have,” she shares. “I found the process to be quite easy to navigate, but I also found the people I encountered along the way were extremely helpful and encouraging.”

“The difference this help has made to my working life [. . .] has been amazing.”
