New Hearing Aids Help Bonita Thrive Professionally
Bonita works as a registered foot and hand reflexologist, and she also creates organic soap, which she sells at retail stores and farmer’s markets. For both, her listening skills are vital, whether she is working one-on-one with a reflexology client or talking with customers in a busy market.
“The loss of my hearing is significant with regard to both my professions and has a dramatic impact on how I am able to perform in a reflexology setting, where the client frequently shares vital health and/or personal information, and regarding my organic soap when I am selling in a market setting. Customer feedback is vital to the creation of an organic product which people use on a daily basis,” she shares. “[It’s] frustrating and limiting.”
She had learned about WorkBC Assistive Technology Services from her audiologist and a friend. She decided to apply, and was quickly approved for funding for the hearing aids she needs to do both ventures.
“With my new hearing aids, I’ve been able to communicate clearly with both clients and customers. The hearing aids have reduced misunderstandings from not hearing what is being said. It has been a profound relief to be able to hear,” she shares. “Client comfort and communication has improved. With these new hearing aids, I find it unnecessary to ask clients and/or customers to repeat themselves.”
Bonita says she “absolutely” recommends WorkBC Assistive Technology Services.
“This program has been integral in my being a more productive professional reflexologist and organic soap vendor,” she says. “I am grateful to be a recipient and benefit from the services and devices offered to me. They have given me a quality of life I’d forgotten, and I’m sure my clients and customers are glad I can hear as well!”
