“I Feel More Confident, Engaged, and Able to Contribute to My Team”
Kathy is a support worker, providing day-to-day assistance and advocacy for individuals experiencing mental illness and homelessness.
“I help clients access community resources, support their personal goals, and promote independence and well-being. I also collaborate with colleagues and service providers to ensure consistent, person-centred care,” she explains.
She has hearing loss. A friend referred her to WorkBC Assistive Technology Services for help funding the hearing aids she needs for work.
“The program helped me by providing hearing aids, which have made a big difference in my day-to-day work,” she shares. “Since receiving employment-related disability supports through the Assistive Technology Services program, my ability to communicate and engage with clients and colleagues has improved significantly. I am able to follow conversations more easily, participate fully in meetings and training sessions, and complete my work tasks more efficiently. These supports have increased my confidence, productivity, and overall effectiveness in my role.
“[It’s] made me feel more capable and included in the workplace,” she continues. “I feel more confident, engaged, and able to contribute to my team.”
When asked if she would recommend WorkBC Assistive Technology Services, Kathy didn’t hesitate.
“Absolutely, I would recommend this program. The supports have made a real difference in my daily work, helping me communicate better and feel more confident in my role. I think anyone facing similar challenges would benefit from the program’s practical and empowering approach,” she says. “It has changed my life. Thank you!”
