Roxy needed new hearing aids.

“My old hearing aids were not functioning at a high enough level for me, resulting in the need for people I work with and serve to repeat themselves constantly. This led to frustration and lack of productivity,” she admits.

Roxy, of Chilliwack, works in a church office as an administrative assistant. Her job sees her do everything from tracking finances and bookkeeping, to web and graphic design, to helping plan and facilitate events and programs.

Having her hearing aids in good working order is a necessity for her in the workplace.

“I am severely to profoundly deaf,” she shares. “Without hearing aids I can not hear at all.”

She turned to WorkBC Assistive Technology Services for help. Through the program, Roxy received new hearing aids, as well as an FM system which enhances the use of her aids.

The change was profound.

“There is less frustration in my life,” Roxy says. “Receiving new hearing aids increased my ability to hear my co-workers, work with them and people who come into the office, and therefore increases my productivity when time is not wasted by needing people to repeat themselves constantly.

“The FM System makes discussions and listening much easier and relaxing for me, than when I used to have to strain to listen.”

Roxy recommends WorkBC Assistive Technology Services to others in need.

“I am very appreciative of the ATS Program, I would not have been able to afford new hearing aids without it.”

WorkBC Assistive Technology Services is operated by Neil Squire. Assistive Technology Services are available to individuals who have a work-related barrier due to a disability or a functional limitation. This may include barriers related to traveling to and from the workplace.
