“I Am Able to Work Faster and Am Making Fewer Mistakes”

Debbie at her workstation, using a large curved monitor in addition to her laptop.

Debbie is a media and marketing strategist, and the founder of her own company, which provides contract work to about 20 other freelancers across BC and beyond. Much of her job involves work on the computer — including doing spreadsheets, analyzing data, writing reports, drafting proposals, and engaging with the ad accounts of her clients social channels.

“I have a visual impairment that has made it very difficult to see fine detail on the screen,” she shares. “It slows down my work which limits how many clients I can bring on and how much work I can generate for my partners.”

Through WorkBC Assistive Technology Services, Debbie received a 45-inch Curved External Monitor, as well as training on Apple Accessibility Features.

“The ATS program was incredibly helpful. They provided me with a really large screen so that I could see better and work faster. They also provided me with a ton of support on how to use the visual accessibility features on my computers and devices. It’s been invaluable,” she explains.

“When I have a large document to read, I can use the audio reader, and I now have tools to make the fonts super large so that I can enlarge when I can’t see the numbers/letters even on my larger screen.”

She says that the accommodations have “absolutely” improved her ability to do her job.

“I am able to work faster and am making fewer mistakes. I spend millions of dollars a year on ad space for my clients, so precision is quite important! I would lose clients if I kept making mistakes due to not being able to see the screen effectively.”

Debbie “100%” recommends WorkBC Assistive Technology Services, praising the “very detailed” training she received and the service from staff.

“Everyone that I worked with through this process was helpful and kind and supportive. Thank you all very much.”
